What are Imperial hoist rings used for?

An imperial swivel hoist ring, or otherwise known as a swivel eye bolt, is a piece of lifting hardware that screws into an object as a lift point for rigging to connect for hoisting and traveling. Similar to the traditional static eye bolt, but for a 360-degree swivel and 180-degree pivot. This swivel and pivot action can accommodate angular lifts, unlike the fixed bolt which is heavily compromised.
Hoist rings are often used for lifting large fixtures, work pieces, machinery and plant. When four swivel hoist rings are placed in the corners of a large fixture, the fixture can be moved safely between operations with the rigging moving to a central lift point.

Hoist Ring Identification

Swivel hoist rings are marked according to ASME B30.26. Subsequently, they are stamped or forged with the manufacturers trademark, load rating and torque value. Each hoist ring is delivered with a Certificate of Conformance referencing the serial number which is also marked on the ring. The serial number can also be used for documenting statuary LER checks.

Lifting Device Safety Information

Prior to the using any hoist rings, please read the safety information and precautions sheet on the download tab of this page. The manufacturer ensures that all materials used on all hoist ring products meet or exceed the safety requirements for lifting. The safe working loads lifted for each hoist ring are based upon a new or “as new” condition product. The safe working load is considered to be the greatest load that should be applied to an item at any time.
