Leading Pioneers
Introduced by Mr. William Boneham in 1934, Boneham & Turner pioneered the development of standardised Jig Bushes in Great Britain. This range, refined over many years, became the basis for the British BS1098/1943 standards, which later evolved into the current BS1098/1953 standards.
As every engineer understands, standardisation is a highly effective method for reducing manufacturing costs. However, these benefits are only realised when the standard range is comprehensive.
If a standard component requires compromise to fit, the cost savings can quickly be overshadowed by the additional time and effort needed during assembly or machining. This is particularly true with Jig Bushes, where even small delays per component can accumulate quickly.
Our standardised Jig Bushes not only adhere to the BS1098/1953 standards, but also include a broader range of sizes and specifications developed through years of experience.
Boneham & Turner also pioneered the development of bushes suitable for reamers and studied the issue of bush deformation when fitted into jigs. While this issue cannot be completely eliminated, we significantly minimised its effects by refining the press fit limits.
In 1936 we introduced a standard Boneham & Turner range catalogue (the first in the country) which led to our drill bush sizes being used by the British Standards Institute in 1942 to create today’s standard ISO.
A brand you can trust
Our BONEHAM brand is consistently reliable in producing exact concentricity and precise tolerances, ensuring complete accuracy in all drilling and aligning applications where the drill bush is used. We always offer the highest possible quality drill bush, ensuring we preserve the strict guidelines set by the company all those years ago.
Covering ISO, BS, DIN and ANSI standards, in imperial (inch), metric (mm) and number sizes, we manufacture all standard and special bushes in accordance with processes dictated to by strict AS9100 or ISO 9001 procedures. Procedures which our technical team feel are a necessity to reliably service the key market areas the company operates in.
We have amassed one of the largest inventories in the world, over the years, residing in both the UK and the USA. This enables us to satisfy a large amount of orders from stock, shipping standard and stocked special items same day for next day delivery. Specials can be manufactured from two days to four weeks depending on customer requirements and raw material stocks.
It has always been our ethos to provide customer-centric ‘Precision Engineered Solutions’, ensuring that we have the correct resources in-place to meet customer expectation.
